Bournemouth defender hit with five-game ban

The Football Association have announced Tyrone Mings has been handed a five-game ban with immediate effect for his altercation with Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Mings, 23, was involved in several altercations with Ibrahimovic during the club’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth last weekend, in which all went unseen by referee Kevin Friend and his officials.

The former Ipswich Town defender was caught on video appearing to stamp on Ibrahimovic’s head while the United ace was on the floor before the 35-year-old proceeded to elbow Mings in the head in and around the 44th minute of the game.

Ibrahimovic has already been given a three-game ban for his role in the altercation but the FA had lodged a separate claim to see Mings’ ban extended, which Bournemouth appealed.

However, the governing body have now announced that Mings will serve a five-game ban after being found guilty of violent conduct, which is a blow to Eddie Howe’s side who are already short at the back.

“AFC Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings will serve a five-match suspension, following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today,” a statement read on the FA’s official Twitter account.

“Mings was charged with violent conduct in relation to an incident in or around the 44th minute of the game against Manchester United.”

Of players that have started at least five league games for Bournemouth this season, Mings has secured the lowest WhoScored rating (6.34).
