Leicester £11.5m bid for Burnley defender rejected

Leicester have had an £11.5m bid for Burnley defender Michael Keane rejected, according to The Daily Mail.

The Premier League champions are keen to bolster their squad ahead of the new season when they welcome Champions League football to their calendar and have earmarked former Manchester United defender Keane as one of their top transfer targets.

Claudio Ranieri has seemingly identified a lack of depth at the heart of his defence as a cause for concern with Robert Huth and Wes Morgan both the wrong side of 30.

Keane, 23, has been a pillar of the Burnley defence since making the permanent switch from United in January 2015 and has represented England as high as Under-21 level.

Sean Dyche’s side were promoted back to the Premier League at the first attempt last season and they are understandably keen to keep hold of a player that has played such an integral part behind their success.

Keane scored five goals and registered one assist from centre-back last season and only Ben Mee (116) completed more interceptions in the Championship of all Burnley players (101).
