Jose Mourinho tips key man as future Manchester United captain
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has hailed Paul Pogba as a future captain for the Red Devils.
The Premier League giants paid a world record sum to bring Pogba back to Old Trafford in the summer and the France international has immediately become a fan favourite at the club.
Pogba, 23, struggled during the first part of the campaign but has really asserted himself as one of the best midfielder’s in the Premier League in recent months.
Speaking ahead of United’s clash with Liverpool on Sunday, Mourinho hailed Pogba’s impact at the club and believes the former Juventus midfielder has all the credentials to be a future United captain.
“I think he has the potential. I think he has the charisma,” The Guardian quotes Mourinho as saying. “The ambition. The mentality. He is a good professional. Being so young and with so many ingredients, I think he can [be a future captain].
“It is not fair to say a player has to be dominant. He is playing amazingly well, no doubts about it, but the team is also playing well. I am not expecting the team to play really bad and for one player to have all the weight on his shoulders, not Paul, not anyone. I expect the team to play well and Paul to be at the level he is playing now regularly”
Wayne Rooney is the current United captain but there are still doubts over his long term future at the club and at 31 years of age the need for a new captain could become an issue in the near future.
Pogba is currently the fourth highest rated player in the Premier League (7.85) and has hit the woodwork more times than any other player in England’s top flight in all competitions (7).
