Manchester City are confident they will sign Alexis Sanchez this month and are poised to make a fresh bid for the Arsenal forward, reports The Guardian.
Sanchez’s current Arsenal deal is due to expire at the end of the season but Pep Guardiola wants to sign the Chile international this month.
The Premier League leaders failed to get a £60m deal for Sanchez over the line in the summer and believe they can sign the 29-year-old for half that price this time around.
Guardiola was concerned that January recruits could disrupt the harmony in the dressing room but Gabriel Jesus’ long-term knee injury has only accelerated the need to sign Sanchez.
Arsene Wenger was dismissive of the idea of Sanchez leaving before the end of the season during the summer but bubbling tensions in the dressing room have forced the Arsenal manager to think twice.
Sanchez has played a direct hand in 10 goals in 19 league appearances for Arsenal this season (seven goals, three assists).
