Arsenal confirm arrival of Napoli target Gabriel

Arsenal have announced the arrival of sought after Lille centre-back Gabriel on a five-year deal until the summer of 2025.

Manchester United showed late interest in signing Gabriel but Arsenal have got a deal over the line in a transfer worth £27m.

Napoli were also in the running to sign the 22-year-old  but Gabriel has instead opted to join Arsenal despite being offered more money elsewhere.

Gabriel is Arsenal's second major signing of the summer following the free transfer arrival of ex-Chelsea winger Willian.

However, Gabriel is in danger of missing the start of the new Premier League season as he needs to complete 14 days of quarantine following his arrival in England.

Lille conceded 29.6% of their total league goals in 2019/20 in the five matches Gabriel didn't start and the Brazil U20 international recorded a tackle success rate of 85.4% - second of all centre-backs in Europe's top five leagues in 19/20 of players to have completed at least 40.
