Atletico Madrid announce arrival of Manchester City target Felix

 

Atletico Madrid have announced the arrival of Benfica wonderkid Joao Felix in a blockbuster €126m (£113m) deal.

 

Felix has emerged as one of the most sought after prospects in European football this summer after an outstanding second half to last season.

 

Atletico have fended off interest from Premier League giants Manchester United and Manchester City to land the talented Portugal international.

 

The LaLiga outfit have even agreed to pay more than Felix's €120m release clause in order to structure their payments over several years.

 

Diego Simeone’s side made Thomas Lemar their club record signing last summer after paying Monaco €60m for the France international.

Atletico have remarkable agreed to pay double that fee to sign Felix after earmarking the 19-year-old as Antoine Griezmann’s replacement.

 

Felix’s camp had reservations about regular playing time at City, while Pep Guardiola was even prepared to loan the teenager back to Benfica fore another season.

 

Felix scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in 26 league appearances for Benfica in 2018/19, playing a direct hand in a league goal every 78.9 minutes of action.
