Man Utd and Aston Villa tracking Canadian goal machine

Premier League pair Manchester United and Aston Villa are interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David in this month, reports FootballTransfers.

David has struggled to hit the heights of previous seasons in 2023/24 having netted just five times in 15 league appearances so far, though three of those came in his last five outings for Les Dogues.

The 23-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, while David is believed to have made it clear that he wishes to leave the French side.

Both United and Villa are looking to bolster their forward ranks this month, with the former hoping to add some firepower to a side that has scored the joint-third fewest goals (22) in the Premier League this season.

Big-money summer signing Rasmus Hojlund has also struggled in the opening months of his United career, netting just once in England's top tier.

Villa, meanwhile, are looking to add reinforcements to the frontline to ease the burden on star striker Ollie Watkins, who has netted nine times and laid on an additional eight assists in the the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

David is contracted to Lille until 2025 and the French side will be aware that time is running out if they wish to secure a hefty fee for the Canada international.
