United star left out of France squad

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been left out of Didier Deschamps’ France squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Sweden and friendly against Ivory Coast.

Martial has struggled for form and fitness since Euro 2016 and has dropped down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho at United so far this season.

The 20-year-old was a revelation in the Premier League last season after making a shock move from Monaco but has struggled to produce the same performances this time around, as he continues to deal with some personal problems off the field.

There was no such omission for his United teammate Paul Pogba, despite his struggles this season, while Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been recalled to the set-up after impressing since his return to action in recent weeks.

Since the start of last season Martial has scored at least three more goals than any other player for United in the Premier League (12).
