Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has confirmed he rejected the chance to join Everton in the summer.
Sigurdsson, 27, has been in superb form, albeit not this season so far, since returning to Swansea in 2014 after a failed stint with Tottenham.
The Iceland international was in great form at Euro 2016 and his performances had convinced Everton to make a move, which Sigurdsson has confirmed he rejected.
“You say you try not to pay too much attention but of course you are aware of what is going on,” Sigurdsson told the Liverpool Echo.
“And your friends are asking you all the time: ‘are you going to sign for Everton?’ But I’m really happy here. I’d been discussing a new contract with the club for quite a while. It got delayed because of the Americans coming in to take over. Once that was done, there was no reason why I would want to go.
“The people here are so friendly, different to London where everyone is in a rush. There’s no traffic here, well hardly any, there’s the beaches, in the summer this is just beautiful. Of course it rains a lot, but I’m not complaining.”
Sigurdsson is actually Swansea’s lowest rated player of those to have made more than one start so far this season (6.54).
