Brazil international admits United offer

Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato has revealed Manchester United made a last-ditch attempt to sign him two hours before the transfer deadline this summer.

Pato, 26, was heavily linked to a number of European clubs over the summer with his contract due to expire with Corinthians next year.

The Brazil international is currently on loan at Sao Paulo and seems to have rediscovered some of the form that saw him burst onto the scene with AC Milan several years ago and the striker has admitted there was a “very nice” offer on the table from United.

“I won’t lie, two hours before closing [the transfer window] I had a very nice offer from Manchester United. I was expecting it, but I only knew after when they commented,” Pato told SporTV.

“But my focus now is here [Sao Paulo]. I am working to do my best and possibly stay at Sao Paulo.”

United instead settled with the signing of Anthony Martial, who has scored four goals in as many games since arriving.

Pato has directly contributed to 12 goals so far this season for his loan club, a feat which is only bettered by two other players in the Brazilian top-flight.
