Manchester United ace escapes serious injury

Manchester United have received welcome news after scan results revealed Romelu Lukaku has avoided an ankle fracture or ligament damage.

Lukaku played through the pain during United’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace before joining up with his Belgium international teammates where he underwent more tests.

The 24-year-old missed training with Roberto Martinez’s squad on Monday but will remain with the squad ahead of their final World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Cyprus.

Lukaku will follow an individual training programme this week to ensure he is fit enough to feature for the Red Devils against Bosnia on Saturday, although it’s likely Jose Mourinho would prefer the striker to return to Manchester and rest.

Serious injury during the international break would be a disaster for United, who face Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and two matches against Benfica in their next seven outings.

Lukaku has made a formidable start to life at United but Mourinho’s side are yet to face one of their direct rivals this season, where Lukaku’s performances will really be judged.

However, he has barely put a foot wrong so far at United. Lukaku has only failed to score in one of his first 12 matches for club and country this season, scoring 15 goals in that time.
