Luiz's Arsenal future up in the air

David Luiz's brief stint at Arsenal could be coming to a premature end with no talks in place over a new contract, reports Sky Sports.

Luiz joined the Gunners last summer on what was believed to be a two-year deal, however it has since emerged that his arrival was on an initial 12-month contract.

No negotiations are in place to discuss a new deal for Luiz, who joined in an £8m switch from Chelsea as a replacement for Laurent Koscielny after the Frenchman left for Bordeaux.

The Brazilian has been a regular feature in the Arsenal defence on the back of his summer arrival, starting 25 of 28 league matches, while head coach Mikel Arteta has repeatedly sung his praises on the back of his December appointment.

However, there have been no talks over extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium, even if both Luiz and Arteta are keen on the 33-year-old remaining in north London.

Luiz, though, has conceded more penalties (3) than any other player in the Premier League this season and it means his WhoScored rating this term is a lowly 6.68.
