Manchester United star unhappy with contract offer

David De Gea wants to be rewarded with wages that would align him with Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez as the highest earners at Manchester United, claims The Daily Record.

United are desperate to secure De Gea’s long-term future and are confident of doing so following Thibaut Courtois’ move to Real Madrid this summer.

De Gea has been a long-term target for Madrid over the last few years but now looks set to have missed out on a return to Spain.

The 27-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal and United are willing to make him the best paid goalkeeper in the Premier League to secure his long-term future.

However, De Gea, who is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, is reportedly unhappy with the club’s opening offer and wants to become one of the club’s top earners.

De Gea is arguably United’s only true world class player and was one of the main reason they finished second in the Premier League last season.

Only champions Manchester City (27 goals conceded) had a better defensive record in the Premier League than United (26) last term but much of that was down to De Gea’s continued heroics.

De Gea has been named United’s player of the year in four of the last five years and would certainly warrant a significant wage hike.

The Spain international endured a nightmare 2018 World Cup campaign and has conceded 10 goals from the last 14 shots on target he has faced for club and country.
