Everton want Barcelona defender

Everton are in talks to sign Barcelona defender Yerry Mina in a deal worth €24m (£21m), reports Goal.com.

Mina only joined Barcelona from Palmeiras in January but is already free to leave the Spanish champions.

The 23-year-old failed to make any significant impression during the second half of last season and now Barcelona are pursuing Sevilla centre-back Clement Lenglet.

Mina stared for Colombia at the 2018 World Cup and now Everton have made their move for the towering centre-back, although Barcelona will only sell on one condition.

Barcelona originally planned to loan Mina out for next season but are now willing to cash in on their £10m investment as long as their is a buy-back option included.

Everton have already struck a similar deal with Barcelona in the past when signing Gerard Deulofeu on a permanent basis in 2015 only for the Spanish giants to trigger their buy-back option two years later.

Mina lived up to his reputation of being a goalscoring centre-back at the World Cup, netting three goals in as many games for Colombia, including an injury-time equaliser against England on Tuesday.

In fact, Mina is one of only three players to score in three separate games at the 2018 World Cup and he features in the WhoScored Team of the Tournament with a rating of 8.35.
