Everton weigh up move for Sunderland ace

Everton are interested in signing Sunderland starlet Jordan Pickford as Ronald Koeman seeks to address their goalkeeping situation at the end of the season, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Koeman brought Maarten Stekelenburg to Everton with him from Southampton over the summer but has dropped the Netherlands international in favour of back-up goalkeeper Joel Robles in recent matches.

Robles has impressed between the sticks since being given the chance to stake a claim to be Everton’s No.1 goalkeeper, but Koeman is still expected to strengthen in that area in the summer, with Pickford on his radar.

The 22-year-old has been one of very few positives for Premier League strugglers Sunderland this season and has been tipped for a big future after impressing in goal for the Black Cats.

Pickford has only just returned from a two-month injury absence after suffering a serious knee injury on Boxing Day against Manchester United and Koeman wants to see how the England U21 international recovers before weighing up a summer move.

Everton are also considering Leicester ace Kasper Schmeichel but give Pickford’s age, a move for the Sunderland goalkeeper could represent better business in the long-term. Pickford’s performances this season have even earned him a place in the WhoScored Premier League Team of the Season.
