Manchester United team news: Pogba to start against Sevilla

Paul Pogba has been passed fit to return to first-team action for Manchester United’s Champions League showdown with Sevilla on Tuesday night, reports The Independent.

A training ground injury at the end of last week ruled Pogba out of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Liverpool and the France international was only able to take part in some of Monday’s training session.

There were doubts whether Pogba would be fit enough to feature against Sevilla but now he is expected to line up against the Spanish side in what should be the only change made by Jose Mourinho from Saturday’s team.

Scott McTominay, who was this week handed his first ever senior Scotland call-up, will drop to the bench as a result, as United look to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Mourinho’s side only managed a 0-0 draw in the first leg and know they have to win on Tuesday in order to guarantee their progression to the next round of knockout matches.

United are favourites but they have struggled against La Liga teams in the past, failing to score more than once in their last 15 encounters with clubs from Spain.

Pogba has struggled for form and fitness in recent weeks and plenty has been written about his long-term future at Old Trafford after reportedly falling out with Mourinho.

The 24-year-old’s WhoScored rating dips from 7.50 in the Premier League to just 6.97 in the Champions League. Pogba has failed to score in four appearances in the competition and registered just one assist.
