Unsettled Tottenham star on Manchester City radar

Manchester City have earmarked Tottenham’s Kyle Walker as a top target this summer according to the Manchester Evening News.

Guardiola has reportedly made the acquisition of home-grown players a focus for what promises to be a busy summer at The Etihad, and Walker’s current situation at Spurs has offered cause for encouragement that an agreement could be reached.

Any fee is likely to be in excess of £40m for the right-back, who is believed to have had a falling out with Mauricio Pochettino that has seen him dropped for key games with Chelsea and Arsenal in recent weeks. Nevertheless, Tottenham won’t negotiate with a title rival unless it is for a considerable price, but City certainly have the wherewithal to meet the Londoners’ high demands.

Their interest in Walker is no surprise given the need for new additions in the full-back positions in particular, with the contracts of Zabaleta, Sagna and Clichy all set to expire. The Tottenham man has established himself in the eyes of most as the strongest right-back in the league this season, registering a career high of 5 Premier League assists.

Pochettino, however, has shown that he has real faith in Kieran Trippier, so selling Walker would likely free up the manager to improve the depth of his squad ahead of another season in the Champions League.
