Zlatan Ibrahimovic breaks silence on serious knee injury

Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has broken his silence since suffering a potentially career-ending knee injury and insists ‘giving up is not an option’ as he targets a return.

Ibrahimovic will reportedly be sidelined until 2018 after rupturing his cruciate knee ligaments during United’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht in the Champions League last Thursday.

The 35-year-old’s current deal with United is due to expire at the end of the season and Jose Mourinho’s side are now expected to withdraw their extension offer with the veteran facing a real fight to even come back from such a horrific injury.

However, Ibrahimovic has broken his silence, in typical Ibrahimovic fashion, and insists he will be back following his long injury lay off.

“First of all, thank you for all the support and love,” Ibrahimovic posted on his official Instagram account. “It’s not news I got injured so I will be out of football for a while. I will go through this like everything else and come back even stronger.

“So far I played with one leg so it shouldn’t be any problem. One thing is for sure, I decide when it’s time to stop and nothing else. Giving up is not an option See you soon.”

Ibrahimovic has played beyond his years since joining United on a free transfer last summer and his goals have often carried the Red Devils at times during the season.

In fact, despite only playing this season Ibrahimovic has scored more goals (17) in the Premier League than any other United player since the start of last season.
