Newcastle make fourth January signing

Newcastle United have announced they have signed Roma striker Seydou Doumbia on loan until the end of the season with a view to make the switch permanent.

Doumbia, 28, marks Steve McClaren’s fourth high profile signing in a month following the arrivals of Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet and Andros Townsend.

The Ivory Coast international has spent the last six months on loan back at CSKA Moscow, where he made a name for himself on the continent before securing a switch to Roma in January 2015.

“I’m delighted to be a Newcastle United player,” Doumbia told the club's official website. “I’ve already started to prepare. I’ve arrived and I’m ready to go.

“It has always been a dream to play in the Premier League and now that dream has come true, so I’m absolutely delighted.

“I am looking forward to helping the club get some wins and climb the table.”
